Quarter 3 SSR Project
The due date for the second SSR project will be Tuesday, March 20th, 2018. Please remember that each quarter you must complete a DIFFERENT project for a novel from a DIFFERENT genre.
Germs!
Hello parents,
Since colds and flus have been going around, I wanted to just highlight for you how gross a school can get with so many bodies coming and going. The picture below is a sanitizer wipe. I have my classes wipe down all the desks every other week. This wipe was for one desk for one week's worth of grime. Granted, most of the discoloration is from pencil lead, but make no mistake there are tons of germs on here. And on each desk. And in each locker. And on each binder, folder, pencil, etc. Please remind your child to use hand sanitizer when they can, to wash their hands before eating lunch or a snack, to sneeze into their arm and not all over their desk or computer, etc. to help keep them healthy. Also, if you could spare a canister or two of Clorox wipes or Kleenex, we could ALWAYS use more.

SSR Q1 Deadline/Info
The 1st quarter SSR project and all required elements of the assignment will be due on Wednesday, October 25th. This will give us enough time to complete all presentations before the quarter ends and grades to be completed. I will be checking in with students on Friday, October 6th to see how far students have made it. I will be suggesting that students be at least half way through their books, with 2-3 metacognitive logs completed (1-2 for my 8th graders).
Please be diligent about staying on top of this project. It is one of few for which I will not grant an extension. This includes illnesses, printer problems, leaving something at home, etc. I will also not be answering any questions about the assignment the week that is due, so please be sure that all parts of the assignment are in order toward the due date. I hate to be strict about it, but too often do students save all their work for the last day or two and then panic; I am trying to cut those problems off at the pass this year. Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns about the project! Email me or see me at a convenient time during the day.

Reader Identity Assignment:
For students who need to finish this assignment at home, here are some suggestions if you are getting stuck! Remember, this is a fairly open-ended reflection regarding what your thoughts or experiences are regarding ELA, reading, and writing.:
- What does reading and writing mean to you?
- Reflect on an experience with reading/writing that has affected you
- How do you consider yourself as a reader or writer? Compared to other subject areas?
Donations!
If you would like to donate supplies to the classroom, we are always in need of and can't have enough of the following:
Kleenex/tissues
Hand sanitizer
Sanitizer wipes
