Vocabulary Lists
Listed below are the district curriculum vocabulary lists. As we move through the school year, some lists will be combined with others to assist with timing. Lists will be updated with specific words as we get to each new unit. Word Generation vocabulary will also be studied. Students may use online tools to complete these assignments.
Vocab instructions for bi-weekly lists:
For each list of words, students are to number and give the following for each word in their composition notebooks:
1. The word and its definition (if multiple definitions are given, list the definition that pertains most closely to the meaning of the prefix, suffix, root word, or context in which the word is used in the reading)
2. Part of speech, varied forms (i.e. if the word is a verb then give the noun, adjective, and adverb forms when possible)
3. A sentence using the word with appropriate context clues to demonstrate understanding of the word (“The boy was underachieving” will not count because this does not show understanding. “The boy was underachieving because he wasn’t on top of his studies” would be a more acceptable sentence.).
4. A picture related to the sentence in #3. I am not your art teacher. Please do not worry about your artistic abilities; just put forth some effort and try to get some detail.
